What is hypnotherapy and how can it help me?

Hypnotherapy, also referred to as hypnosis or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state (a half-conscious state, seemingly between sleeping and waking) in which you have heightened focus and concentration on your inner world. When you’re under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to therapeutic suggestions, however you are in full control. I cannot make you do anything that you don’t want to do.

The goal with hypnotherapy is  to help you gain control over or cope better with undesired patterns or thinking, feeling or behaving. We do this through involving all of your senses and creating  mental imagery, storytelling, metaphors and repetition while in trance, then we trust that your unconscious mind will do what it needs to do to rearrange itself for your benefit.

Can I be hypnotized?

Yes. Hypnosis is a natural state that we all enter into while we watch movies, read books, meditate and day dream or simply zone out or get into a flow. You just have to have the intention and then allow yourself to relax and go inward.

Do I want to be hypnotized?

That’s really up to you. In my practice this is not a must. We can just do counselling. While I personally love hypnosis and going into trance, I understand that it can be scary if you’ve never had someone guide you through this process. I will always ask you if you want to go into trance before you do it and what your goal is with it. I take on the role of Guide and guide you into trace, through it, and then back out. There has to be a level of trust there for it to work, and you get to decide if you trust me enough to try it.

What is the point?

The point is to get into your unconscious mind where all your life experiences, memories, habits, beliefs reside and rearrange things so that you are living the life that you want. Your conscious mind may choose to come along on the ride and watch, but you want to get past it’s continuous and sometimes overbearing analysis to get the most benefit. While we may think that the conscious or thinking mind is in control, it’s actually your unconscious that is the one that runs the show; much like a computer, you have the desktop software (conscious mind) and your harddrive (unconscious mind).
IF you choose, you can change the hardware to your liking.  Therapy of any sort is about getting back to who you really are, minus all the trash you’ve collected over your lifetime that isn’t serving you anymore.

What will trance feel like?

Each of us experiences trance differently. Some people let go right away and go really deep where they may not remember the details once they come out and other’s hover just below the surface. Either way is the right way for you. Some people close their eyes and others keep them open. You may feel different sensations in your body or you may not. It’s very individual but because we all have the same biology to work with the process is similar from person to person.

Will I create false memories?

No. I’m not here to change the memories that are there. You’re memories are not a problem. It’s the meaning, and perception that you have of those memories that are problematic, whether or not you’re consciously aware of them.

But really what is the point of all this?

The point is for you to get it together, whatever that actually looks like for you. Everyone talks about better mental health but what does that mean? We live in a society where we have so many demands on us, yet most of us were never guided or taught what to do with or how to use the squishy stuff between our ears. There is no other soul on this green earth that’s like you and that’s who this world needs  (minus all the bullshit). So the better you feel about yourself and the more you love who you are, the better and the more aligned your inner world will be with your outer world. That, my friend, is better mental health. 

How/where do we do hypnosis?

All sessions are done online. Please ensure that you have a comfortable, quiet place where you won’t be disturbed and are free to talk openly. Also, please make sure that you are set up in such a way where the area is well lit and I can see your face and shoulders. As your practitioner, being able to see you well is a must. Also your audio needs to be working so that you can hear me.
